Plusmo lets you read Myspace blogs by cell phone

Plusmo Myspace blog readingMost of you know by now that I tend to be interested primarily in Myspace related technology. Often I'll overlook certain features of a site or product, simply because I don't think they have a place here - Myspace, Myspace, Myspace!

That said, I'd like to introduce you to a company called Plusmo; More specifically, I'd like to show you their mobile RSS/Atom feed reader. Ya see, Plusmo, among many other things, allows you to read any blog feed via your cell phone. You simply sign up for their free service, follow the instructions to install their software to your cell phone, then configure those feeds that interest you via their site; Myspace friend blogs for example.

Fotodunk: Easiest way to share cell phone photos, & it's Myspace'able!

Fotodunk Myspace widgetThose of you still wanting to quickly send your cell phone pics right to your Myspace profile have yet another option to choose from - competition is a good thing apparently. If Shozu, Umundo, or Mojungle haven't met your needs, give Fotodunk a try. The Fotodunk site is pretty straightforward, very easy to use, and they've even added a quick demo to walk you through the process.

Fotodunk Myspace widget
I was posting pictures to my Myspace profile in just a few minutes. Like other services, you simply take a picture with your cell phone, then send that picture to an email address. Via a Fotodunk/Myspace widget, your picture is automatically posted to your Myspace profile.

Users of the service can choose between two different Myspace widgets; a slideshow version that shows one picture at time, or a grid-like widget that shows several smaller thumbnails at a time.

All in all, very easy to use.

Rockyou slideshows for your Myspace profile

Rockyou Myspace slideshow widgetRockyou has been busy adding more features to their Myspace Slideshow widget. Presumably, at least by the looks of things on Myspace, most of you are aware of their services. For those that aren't, go here and have a look. Currently they offer two widgets, a Slideshow widget, and a "Scratcher" (in Beta at the moment) widget.

Both widgets allow users to import their photos directly from Myspace, Photobucket, or by choosing a file from their computer. Both are also extremely customizable. You can set color, transparency, text and slide transitions, and even select from various pre-made themes.

Rockyou also supports a tagging/categorizing feature that allows users to view, rate, and comment on each others slideshows.

Here are some sample creations.

Saynow Shoutouts: Connecting artists to their fans via Myspace

SaynowSaynow, founded in November 2005 by a small team of people in Palo Alto, is offering a new way for aspiring musicians to stay in touch with their fans by way of a Myspace widget.

Using "Shoutouts" artists can send voice messages directly to a sort of mobile fan club. Fans get to listen to their favorite artists via their cell phone and are even able to send them replies. Since the service acts as a relay, sending messages back and forth, both parties numbers are kept completely private.

Shozu: upload photo/video from cell to your Myspace profile

Shozu: photo and video to your Myspace profileRight off, I should clarify one thing. Shozu allows you to upload photos and videos from your phone to your photo-sharing Web site. The thing is, since most of the photo-sharing sites now have widgetized Myspace plugins, Shozu's service actually ties in quite nicely with your Myspace profile. The Shozu service currently supports Buzznet, Flickr, Kodak Easy Share, YouTube, Webshots, Textamerica and works something like this:

You have the option of choosing to show your most recent, most interesting, random, and random interesting photos. MyChingo: Audio messaging for your Myspace profile

MyChingo Myspace widgetMyChingo has developed a neat little application that ties in nicely with Myspace . Think of it as an answering machine (or voicemail) for your Myspace profile. In the free version, visitors are directed to a java applet where they can record up to a two minute voice message. The messages are then automatically posted to your profile via the MyChingo Myspace widget. You are given the option of having these messages seen be everyone or just by you.

Users of the service can choose from two different versions of player and eight different colors.

Here's one example.

Myspace gives Fredo kiss of death to 3rd party widgets

If you happened to login to your Myspace account recently you've most certainly come across this nag screen politely asking that you upgrade to Flash 9.

Myspace falsh upgrade

Text version:

Flash 9 Upgrade

hey folks - we are moving myspace music players and video players to flash 9.0. flash 9 has security fixes so that people can't mess with you on myspace. if your 'about me' got screwed up this weekend, you could have been safe if you had flash 9 installed. here's an easy way to install it, go watch this dashboard video i posted last week. if you don't like dashboard, just watch any video in our video section, and you'll be prompted to install flash 9.

Be afraid, be very, very, afraid. You see, apparently there is more to this than meets the eye. Rumor has it that the supposed "upgrade", as they're calling it, may also wipe out your third party widgets (or at least some of their functionality).

I especially like how they (Tom) says "go watch this dashboard video i posted last week. if you don't like dashboard, just watch any video in our video section". Given what we now know, does anyone else get the feeling that he's just a little too anxious to get everyone on board with this upgrade.

Myspace cell phone picturesA new service called Mojungle allows users to send cell phone pictures and video straight to their Myspace profiles.

You simply send your picture/video to now@mojungle.com. Seconds later Mojungle sends you a text message with a temporary password that you use to login to the site and setup your account (Tip: Look for the "Get player" link at the top right once you login - paste the code to your Myspace profile). You are then able to automatically add images to your profile from anywhere. Nice!

JX Myspace editor - very clean and simple

It's not often that I come across a Myspace editor that I like. Most, as you know, are crammed with advertising and are designed to keep you confused in hopes that you'll click on as many of the ads before finding out how to get the information you really want.

JX Myspace does just the opposite. You get exactly what is expected - a Mypace editor. The design of the site is extremely clean and very easy to use.

Give it a try.

MyWhatSpace lets you send group messages in Myspace

MyWhatSpace Myspace group messagesHere's a tool that lets you send one message to multiple people on your Myspace friends list. With MyWhatSpace, you simply import your friends list, group them into your own user defined categories, and then send message blasts to everyone in said category. A real time saver as they put it; "No more staying up until indecent hours of the night trying to write a message to every last one of your friends, that's not cool." There's a nice video tutorial on the site to give you a better idea of how it works.

Wanna chat with LIVE peeps visiting your Myspace page?

Gabbly chat in MyspaceAugust 18, 2006 Update: The Gabbly chat button has been changed and is reflected in the code below. You can see an example of it here.

I stumbled on this gem of an application and figured it might be useful to you Myspace'ers.

Gabbly, allows a user to chat with other visitors of any site in a real time interface.

What this means for you is that you, as well as your profile visitors, can now chat with anyone that happens to be visiting your profile via a chat link embedded on your page.

Sadly, no one was visiting my page while I was testing out this bad-boy (*sniff*).

Here's Gabbly working on the Google homepage

As of today, the only browsers supported are: Firefox 1.5, IE 6.0, Safari 2.0, and Flock; but the good folks over at Gabbly are apparently working on supporting more browsers in the near future; Opera, and IE 7.0 have been mentioned.

Here's how to get it into your Myspace profile:

1. Copy the code below to the VERY END of your Myspace "About Me" section.

2. Next, in the code you just pasted, locate and replace YOUR_ID_GOES_HERE with your Myspace ID number. Your ID number can be found by opening another browser, visiting your Myspace profile, then looking for it at the end of your Myspace URL; It'll be the series of numbers FOLLOWING "friendid=" (see the example below). Be sure to just replace YOUR_ID_GOES_HERE with your Myspace ID. No additional commas, slashes, or quotes.

An example of how to find your Myspace ID

3. Save it and you should be ready to go.

The CHAT bubble, will now allow you and any other visitor that also has clicked the bubble to chat with one another.
